Olayinka Macualay Badmus aka Herbert Macualay is often referred as the Nigerian’s Father of nationalism. He was given birth to in lagos on the 14th Nov, 1846 to parents from sierra leone His contribution and legacy to the Nigerian Nation cannot be over emphasized. This Nigerian father of nationalism is known to always be on his black tie. Herbert was a grandson to the renown bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther. This renowned and famous founding father of Nigeria went to
the CMS secondary school in lagos and later took up a clerical job after graduation. History has it that Herbert was fond of wearing the black bow tie in remembrance of his late wife who passed away in the process of childbirth. Caroline Pratt was the late wife of Herbert Macaulay. Herbert worked briefly as a crown inspector before leaving the position.
