 The Dams in Nigeria are majorly used for farming activities, portable water supply and power generation. They are very important in the agricultural and power sectors of the Nigerian economy. Dams in Nigeria are particularly of great essence as they ensure that farming activities especially crops in the northern part of Nigeria are provided with water year round due to the low annual rainfall experienced in this as this part of the country. The shiroro power dam in Niger state is the
power house of the Nigeria economy. This dam generates about half of the hydro electric power consumed in Nigeria daily. Below are list of major dams and states located in Nigeria.

The Ede erinle reservoir is located in Osun State.

The Asjire reserviour is located in Oyo State

The Bakolori Dam is situated in Sokoto State with a surface area of 8,000.

The Challawa Gorge Dam is in Kano State

The Dadin Kowa Dam is in Gombe State with a surface area of 29,000.

The Goronyo Dam is in Sokoto State.

The Ikere Gorge Dam is in Oyo State with a surface area of 4, 7000.

The Jebba Dam is in Niger State.

The Jibiya Dam is in Kastina State.

The Kafin Zaki Dam is in Bauchi State.

The Kainji Dam is located in Niger State.

The Kiri Dam is situated in Adamawa state.


The Oyan Dam is locate in Ogun State.

The Tiga Dam is in Kano State.

The Zauro Polder Dam is in Kebbi State.

The Zobe Dam is in Kastina State
