The Federal Republic of Nigeria got her independence on October 1st, 1960 and became a republic on October 1st, 1963. As of last census count the total population of Nigeria is estimated to be 164,729,000. The country has a land mass of about 923,770km2 and its Gross National Income per capital is $1,140 as stipulated by the World Bank. The most populous state in Nigeria is Kano State which as roughly about 9,383,682. The southern and the northern protectorate of Nigeria were amalgamated in 1914. Officially, Nigerian speaks English but has other major and minor languages. The three major tribes in Nigeria are the Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa. The smallest state in Nigeria is Lagos state with a land
mass of 3,345 km2 while the largest state is Niger state with a total land mass of 76,363km2. The national Remembrance Day in Nigeria is January 15th. The Remembrance Day is usually observed and celebrated to commemorate the fallen heroes who served the Nigerian state meritoriously in the past. May 27th is usually observed as children’s day. The children’s day celebration gives children the opportunity to express and articulate want they want as citizens of Nigeria. The Nigerian currency is divided into Naira and Kobo.  Nigeria witnesses’ heavy amount of rainfall in its southern region and this gives that part of the country a tropical rainforest while the middle belt region is characterized by an average rainfall resulting to the beautiful grassland. The northern part of Nigeria experiences sparse rainfall resulting to semi arid vegetation. Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural resources. It exports crude oil as it main source of revenue.  The country has many industries in the manufacturing sector while agriculture is the second source of Nigerian revenue after oil and gas. The time difference is +1 GMT. Structurally, the country is divided into 36 states plus the federal capital territory. Nigeria has a total of 774 LGAs. The federal capital territory Abuja is the new capital of Nigeria which was created in Dec 12th 1991.  “Unity and Faith” is the motto of the federal republic of Nigeria. Abuja is the country’s political capital is while Lagos is the commercial capital.  Nigerians drives on the right and the country dialing code are +234. President Goodluck Jonathan is currently the president of Nigeria while his vice is architect Namadi Sambo.
